Intel Core i9-7960X 25% faster than AMD Threadripper 1950X

According to Geekbench database

Although the acclaimed launch date will be somewhen during the upcoming weeks news leaks related to Threadripper are making it through almost every day. This time OC3D jumped the gun and they have found some leaks in the Geekbench database. Comparing the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X to the upcoming Intel Core-i9 it looks like the latter is quite a bit faster.

Before looking at all these numbers a few things need to be clarified. First of all the chip tested is an engineering sample and not the final CPU, furthermore the DDR4 memory ran at pretty low speeds. According to the Geekbench database, the upcoming Intel Core i9-7960X at stock frequencies hits 33'672 points in the multi-core and 5'238 points in the single-core routine, while the AMD Threadripper 1950X, with the memory set to the same clock speeds, is able to achieve 26'768 points in multi-core and 4'167 points in single-core.

According to the information in the Geekbench database, the Intel Core i9-7960X processor should pack a base CPU clock of 2.5GHz and Turbo clock of up to 4.0GHz. Furthermore it has 22.50MB of L3 cache, 16MB of L2 cache, bringing us to a total of 38.50MB of cache. The benchmark has been run on an ASUS Prime X299-Deluxe motherboard, which was shown off at Computex 2017.

Since the score of the AMD Threadripper 1950X processor is quite close to the Ryzen 7 1800X, we believe there is still some potential slumbering in those chips. As you might know, the Ryzen 7 1800X is a 8 core with 16 threads, while the upcoming Threadripper 1950X packs 16 cores with 32 threads. Since the launch of the Threadripper 1950X processor is expected to happen very soon, we’re almost certain more results are going to leak very soon.
