AMD has officially announced their new Ryzen Threadripper series of processors. This new series of CPUs will come with more cores than their Ryzen 7 chips and it’s going to be based on a AMD’s very own HEDT platform. According to AMD, Threadripper 1950X and 1920X are set to release in August.


So far AMD's Ryzen Threadripper CPU lineup includes one 12-core CPU and one 16-core CPU, which go by the names Ryzen Threaripper 1950X and Ryzen Threadripper 1920X. The base clock frequencies range between 3.4 GHz and 3.6 GHz and the TDP of these upcoming CPUs is set to 180W. Threadripper make use of the X399 chipset, which hosts the Socket TR4. According to AMD, the Ryzen Threadripper processors and its X399 motherboard platform, are going to be available in early August.

AMD has released a Cinebench video, presenting the performance of the Threadripper 1950X processor. The benchmark shows that the upcoming AMD CPU is able to hit over 3000 points running the multi-threaded testing routine. According to the Cinebench R15 database, the upcoming Ryzen Threadripper 1950X is 18% faster than Intel’s Xeon E5-2697 v4. This is a pretty interesting result since the Intel Xeon E5-2697 v4 features 18 cores and 36 threads, while the AMD chip has two cores and 4 threads less to bring to the table.

As you might have expected AMD, is going to launch those chips at affordable prices, when compared to Intel. The Ryzen Threadripper 1950X is supposed to set you back $999 US, while the Ryzen Threadripper 1920X chips should cost $799 US.
