A few weeks ago Microsoft has added a GPU utilization Tab to task manager in the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16226. The performance tab also shows GPU utilization as well as graphics memory usage stats. This feature is quite useful if you want to know what your graphics accelerator is doing without the need of installing third party software.
The new tab gives you live stats regarding your GPU's load, hardware-acceleration (encoding/decoding) load, dedicated memory usage, shared memory usage, and basic driver information such as driver version and date.
Meanwhile Microsoft has released an update which ignores information from virtual graphics adapters such as their amount of memory. In other words you’re now only going to find information on dedicated graphics card. However, the GPU utilization tab is still in the beta testing stage and should you find any issues or bugs Microsoft would be happy to know your findings.
If you want to have a look at the new GPU monitoring tab in the Task Manager you have to apply for the Windows Insider Program.
