Samsung has expanded its curved monitor lineup with three new monitors featuring a 49-inch, a 32-inch and a 27-inch panel. The first monitor is based on a rather unusual 3840 x 1080 resolution, while the two others feature WQHD 2560 x 1440 pixel. Furthermore each one of the displays supports AMD FreeSync 2 which allows to communicate with your PC to share colour space information, brightness values and not only the variable refresh rate informations.
As we already mentioned the C32HG70 monitor has been equipped with a 32-inch panel, while the C27HG70 features 27-inch panel. Both displays support 2560 x 1440 Pixels (WQHD) and they feature a 1800R curvature. On both monitors there are two HDMI 1.4a ports and one DisplayPort 1.2a connector. The display is based on an VA panel that supports Samsung’s Quantum Dot technology. The contrast ratio is 3000:1, the brightness is 600 cd/m2 and there is a 1ms response time (GTG).
The Samsung C49HG90 comes with a huge 49-inch display and quite an uncommon 32:9 aspect ratio with a resolution of 3840 x 1080 pixel. Like the two others this monitor also supports FreeSync 2. Apart from that there is an 1800R curvature, support for 125% sRGB colour space and 95% of the DCI-PE colour space. Regarding the connectors, the C49HG90 comes with one DisplayPort, one Mini-DisplayPort and one HDMI connector. Furthermore all the displays offer audio in, a headphone port and a small two port USB 3.0 hub.
In case you are wondering, FreeSync 2 is the successor of AMD’s Freesync technology. One major improvement is LFC, which is the acronym for low frame rate compensation. Displays that support Freesync support a variable refresh rate that ranges between 35Hz and 100Hz for example. Should the graphics card not be able to send 35 fps to the display, then stuttering is going to be visible, since the frame rate and display’s refresh rate are out of sync. LFC is basically an algorithm that’s calculating (sophisticatedly guessing) the missing frames to deal with low frame rate stuttering. Apart from LFC Freesync 2 is supposed to help increase image quality as well, being able to receive information on colour gamut.
The retail prices for these monitors are also available already and the massive 49-inch C49HG90 is going to cost $1499 US, the C32HG70 sells for $699 US and the $599 goes for C27HG70. On another note: after a brief chat with Samsung it looks like we’re going to be able to come up with a review on this one for you guys.
