ASUS unveils two more X299 motherboards

Two new ROG Rampage VI

During Computex 2017, two more ASUS X299 motherboard have been pictured by our friends from Expreview. This time ASUS has unveiled the ROG Rampage VI Extreme and the ROG Rampage VI Apex, both feature an E-ATX form factor with several PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots and M.2 slots.

The ROG Rampage VI Extreme and the ROG Rampage VI Apex are based on the same form factor and belong to the same series of motherboards. While for the ROG Rampage VI Apex there are several pictures available, there are not that many details available on the new Extreme. On the ASUS ROG Rampage VI Extreme there are four full-sized PCIe slots with steel reinforcements and one PCIe x1 slot. In the case of storage you’ll find six angled SATA ports, one U.2 port and at least two M.2 slots. Looking for additional features we find onboard buttons and a debug display, support for USB 3.1 and a good mix of connectors at the I/O panel. Since this model is specifically targeting watercooling enthusiasts, there is an armada of 3-pin and 4-pin PWM connectors.

The ROG Rampage VI Apex is designed for overclockers and there are only four DIMM slots for instance. There are four full-sized PCIe slots without steel reinforcements and one PCIe x4 slot. Storage wise you’ll find six angled SATA ports and two M.2 slots placed, like on the previous model, in the DIMM slots. Looking for additional features we find a debug display, several onboard buttons and support for USB 3.1. Although this board should be as simple as possible, we see a dedicated audio solution in the bottom left corner.

At the moment there are only a few pictures available but we might add more during the next days. The full list of specifications as well as detailed pictures can most likely be expected to surface during the upcoming weeks, since by then the NDA is supposed to be lifted.
