During the past three months, some owners of Intel Core i7-7700 and 7700K processors have been complaining about unusual temperature increases. According to user accounts, temperatures can sometimes hit 90°C and reach the maximum 100°C threshold. Intel has finally come up with a response to the complaints, though the answer is not really offering any solutions to the users.
In a thread on Intel's community forums, a spokesman suggested to stop overclocking to avoid high temperatures. According to Intel, there aren't temperature variations outside the expected behavior and recommended specifications. Furthermore it was suggested to improve the air cooling inside the case in order to get more fresh air on the CPU. In other words, PC gamers should not overclock their Core i7-7700K processors, which have unlocked multipliers specifically for overclocking.
If you want overclock your CPU and at the same time get reasonable temperature you should delid your processor. As long as the standard thermal compounds is applied the temperatures are significantly higher. Applying a compound from Gelid or Thermal Grizzly allows you to achieve temperatures that are between 15°C and 20°C lower. This can help improving overclocking capabilities in the case of air and water cooled systems. Nevertheless it needs to be mentioned that delidding a CPU is always a risky task and you it is not covered by the warranty plan when you buy any Intel CPU.
