According to the latest rumors, it’s possible to flash your Radeon RX 470 to a RX 570. The same appears to apply for the AMD Radeon RX 480 GPUs, which have been successfully flashed with RX 580 BIOS files, allowing updated RX 480 graphics cards to run with the same clock speeds like the RX 580.


This BIOS upgrade is not a surprise since AMD themselves have admitted that the RX 580 is powered by the same GPU as the RX 480. The main difference between the cards is the increased clock speeds thanks to an improved manufacturing process. Furthermore most of the partners are using the same PCB they’ve already used for their 400 series cards. The Device ID remains the same and only the Subsystem ID has been changed. In other words the "new" Radeon RX 570 and 580 are more or less the cards.

Yesterday a user on the Guru3D forums who goes by the nickname BigMaMaInHouse has successufully turned his Radeon RX 470 into a RX 570 by flashing the BIOS. In order to do so you have to use the ATIFlash software and upgrade your BIOS with the latest firmware. Due to the higher frequencies and voltages, the temperature is going to rise as well in comparison with the original BIOS. In other words flashing your RX 470 or RX 480 will simply, constantly overclock your card. On top of that there is no guarantee that any RX 470 or RX 480 can be flashed into a RX 570 or RX 580, making this performance-boosting BIOS update a risky process.

Below you can find the test result from Guru3D on 3DMark Time Spy benchmark. According to them, a flashed RX 470 graphics card can achieve the same scores as a real AMD Radeon RX 570.
