The new MSI Z270 Gaming M6 AC is basically an upgrade of the Z270 Gaming M5. This new motherboard is based on the same design and I/O panel. The main difference comparing these two models is the Intel AC capable Wi-Fi including antennas. Furthermore MSI ships the Z270 Gaming M6 AC bundled with Phanteks RGB LED strips.
The MSI Z270 Gaming M6 AC is based on an ATX form-factor. Like the other models of the same series, there are plastic covers on both the PCIe slots and the heatsinks. Apart from that there is the “Mystic Light” feature, which allows you to change the illumination of the board from within Windows. Furthermore three full-sized PCIe slots and two of them feature steel reinforcements.
Between the first and the second full-sized PCIe slot there are two slots distance providing plenty of space for graphics cards in case of multi-GPU setups. On the storage side we see two M.2 slots and the one has been placed at the bottom part of the motherboard and is covered by an MSI M.2 Shield which should add cooling. Furthermore there are six SATA ports and one Turbo U.2 port. The new Z270 Gaming M6 AC doesn’t come with any onboard buttons which are present on the Z270 Gaming M7.
Regarding the I/O panel there are three USB 3.0 ports, two USB 3.1 Gen2 ports (Type-A and Type-C), two USB 3.1 Gen1 ports and one PS/2 combo port. In addition there is one DisplayPort port, one HDMI port and audio panel. Last but not least there are Gigabit ethernet ports, which are both based on a Killer E2500 chip and Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265.
In our opinion this model looks quite interesting, although the covers are made from plastic. The new MSI Z270 M6 Gaming AC is already available on Geizhals at a starting price of 248 Euro.
