Samsung preparing two new 144Hz 3440x1440 monitors

Go beyond DisplayPort 1.2

Samsung is planning to release two new monitors this year which push both refresh rate and resolution beyond the DisplayPort 1.2 capabilities.

To be released in Q2 2016 and Q3 2016, the two new monitors, will be using 35-inch and 30-inch VA panels as well as offer 144Hz refresh rate and 3440x1440 resolution, pushing beyond the limits of DisplayPort 1.2. Currently, DisplayPort 1.2 is limited to 3440x1440 at 100Hz, which suggest that the two new monitors will be using DisplayPort 1.3 interface.

While these two new monitors might already be ready, Samsung will have to wait for the next generation graphics cards, which will most likely support DisplayPort 1.3 interface. AMD has already confirmed that upcoming Polaris GPU will support it and it is highly likely that Nvidia has gone on the same path.

Unfortunately, there are currently no further details but it is obvious that monitor manufacturers are pushing for higher resolution and high refresh rate monitors.
