Zen+ to keep Zen architecture alive for next few years

Zen to be succeeded by Zen+ and Zen follow ons

While we heard plenty about AMD's Zen CPU architecture and are eagerly awaiting its release next year, it appears that AMD is already working on Zen+ that will keep the same architecture on the market for next three to five years.

During the 19th Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference held earlier this week, AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, has revealed a new slide which shows that AMD intends to keep Zen architecture around for quite some time, or next three to five years. The new Zen+ and Zen follow on architectures should represent AMD's multi-year strategy.

To be able to offer a long-term roadmap is very important when it comes to datacenter market and, unlike the Bulldozer and Piledriver architectures and their rather short lifespan, AMD Zen architecture will be a bit different and should keep the AM4 platform on the market for three to five years until the new CPU architecture is introduced.

In case you missed it earlier, AMD's Zen architecture CPUs should start sampling next year with initial availability expected by the end of 2016 and broader market availability in 2017.
