Qualcomm dismisses Snapdragon 820 overheating rumors

Reveals a bit more details on the SoC

Recent rumors that the upcoming high-end Snapdragon 820 SoC from Qualcomm forced the company to issue a statement denying those rumors and that the SoC will be based on a 14nm manufacturing process.

Although earlier rumors came from a rather unconfirmed sources from South Korea stating that actually Samsung is trying to fix overheating issues by implementing a heatpipe in its upcoming Galaxy S7 flagship smartphone, said to be based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC, it appears that Qualcomm had to make a statement.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 820 SoC has no issues with the overheating and that it is built on 14nm manufacturing process with quad-core cluster of Kyro cores as well as dedicated technologies designed to utilize the processor’s functionality in a smart, energy-efficient way.

To be quite fair, Qualcomm also said that there were no overheating issues with its previous Snapdragon 810 SoC although real world test showed a different story.

Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 820 SoC has yet to appear in any devices as it is still in its testing phase so we will have to wait a bit longer to see both how well it performs and if it has any problems with overheating.
