According to a couple of new reports, Nvidia apparently plans to discontinue the 2GB version of the GTX 960 graphics cards and only keep the 4GB version available.
According to reports coming from
HWBattle.com and
Wccftech.com, Nvidia decided to make this move in order to better compete with AMD's R9 380 graphics cards, which is available in both 2GB and 4GB versions but has a wider 256-bit memory interface.
The second reason could be due to a change in texture size of recent games, making 4GB of VRAM a must for some games at maximum settings and 1080p resolution.
While most games would not benefit from 4GB of VRAM, or precisely, there will be no performance benefit between 2GB or 4GB of VRMA, Nvidia will certainly make its GTX 960 graphics card a bit more future-proof, since most developers are pushing recommended settings to a higher bar.
In case you missed it, Nvidia's Geforce GTX 960 graphics cards are based on 28nm GM206 Maxwell GPU and pack 1024 CUDA cores and 32 ROPs.
