Valve impressed with Vulkan API

Not as excited over DirectX 12

Valve is definitely a big name when it comes to gaming industry and according to company's latest appearance at Siggraph, it appears that DirectX 12 is not in their focus but rather the Vulkan API.

During Siggraph 2015, Valve's Dan Ginsburg noted that while new and upcoming APIs, like DirectX 12 and Vulkan, offer low-level access to the GPU and CPU, which will be great for games, Vulkan API has the upper hand with far superior technology.

He also noted that while DirectX 12 is getting a lot of support from developers, Vulkan API will have support for not only Windows 10, but also Windows 7, Windows 8 and Linux.

Of course, one may argue that Dan is pretty biased on this topic since he worked closely with Vulkan API for past couple of months but it will certainly be interesting to see which API will have more support from developers and, more importantly, which API will be better once we have some final products.

You can check out Dan's part at around 1:40:00 in the video below.
