It appears that AMD is indeed fixing the problem that Radeon R9 Fury X has with noisy pump-block design which was spotted in reviews and users that bought the first batch of Radeon R9 Fury X graphics cards.
In case you missed it, Radeon R9 Fury X had certain problems with both coil whine as well as noise coming from the pump of the AiO liquid cooler made by Cooler Master. While AMD issued a statement saying that the problem was limited to the initial batch of Fury X graphics cards and was later fixed in cooperation with Cooler Master, there was no way to confirm this as Radeon R9 Fury X is quite hard to get, even in retail/e-tail.
According to latest post over
at Anandtech.com forums, it appears that AMD and Cooler Master have indeed revised the design of the AiO liquid cooling pump-block and fixed the noisy pump problem.
Unfortunately, there is no way to know which sample did you get other than unscrewing the front plate, which does not void warranty, and check out the Cooler Master logo on the pump-block, which is now a 2-color logo rather than a multi-color one seen on early batch of Fury X graphics cards.
The coil whine is still not fixed but this problem was limited from sample to sample, and probably won't be fixed until AMD gives out green-light to its AIB partners for custom versions, where we will see some high-quality chokes.
In any case, it is good to know that AMD is on top of the problem and hopefully we won't hear about those problems anymore.
