Since the virtual reality (VR) is definitely the next big thing and with products like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Sony's Project Morpheus slowly coming to life, it does not come as a surprise that Futuremark has announced that it is developing a a VR benchmarking tool, the VRMark.
According to Futuremark, the VRMark will use a combination of hardware and software in order to test the performance and accuracy of any VR system as it will measure the ability of system to deliver high frame rate with low variance as well as measure frame latency in the headset and responsiveness and accuracy of headset sensors.
The latency is a big problem for such devices since it is one of the key aspects of achieving the feeling of presence in a VR world and avoiding motion sickness so Futuremark's VRMark will be able to show you which device is better on that field.
Futuremark has invited VR system manufacturers to join its Benchmark Development Program which members will have an exclusive access to VRMark as it develops.
Futuremark's parent company, UL, will offer professional lab-based VR testing and verification meant to protect health, safety and well-being of VR users.
