GeForce GTX 980 Ti as fast as GTX Titan X

hwbattle jumped the gun - again

The guys over at hwbattle appear to be making a habit out of leaking information. In the past few weeks they've published almost all details related to NVIDIAs upcoming GeForce GTX 980 Ti graphic cards. The only piece of informion missing was the actual performance and meanwhile even these numbers have been disclosed ahead of the cards launch.

It doesn't stop with a full set of benchmark scores, since also the full specs have been leaked thanks to a GPU-Z screenshot. Having a closer look at the benchmark results it appears that the GeForce GTX 980 Ti is as fast as the GeForce GTX Titan X, while being more affordable. But lets go back to the specifications again. The GTX 980 Ti is based on a GM200 GPU with codename GM200-310. It features 2816 CUDA cores, 176 texture units and 96 ROPs. It is interesting to see that the ROP count of the 980 Ti is the same as with the Titan X although there are less CUDA cores.

Now to the performance: hwbattle has tested the card in several benchmarks including 3DMark Fire Strike, Assassin's Creed Unity, Dirt Rally and GTA 5. Overall the performance of the GTX 980 Ti is on par with the GTX Titan X, with the Titan X being a little bit faster. It looks like the 256 fewer CUDA cores don't make for a big difference in games and apart from the 6 Gigabyte of memory appear to be sufficient these days. At this point you should keep in mind that hwbattle has tested the card with FullHD resolution and settings on ultra. Apparently the GTX 980 Ti as well as the Titan X can cope with much higher resolutions. In other words hwbattle didn't spoil all the fun before the launch, since especially the high-resolution benchmarks are going to be very interesting to have a look at in the case of these two cards.

Usually when some sites leak entire sets of benchmark results the launch of the card is imminent. It looks like the card is going to be released very soon.
