Seagate announces new 6TB NAS HDD

Network Attached Storage optimized 6TB HDD

Seagate Technology has announced its newest enterprise-class NAS (Network Attached Storage) HDD optimized for performance and reliability in up to 16-bay NAS systems, available in capacities of up to 6TB and designed to performance in environments that require global availability and 24x7 accessibility.

Now available in 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6TB capacities, Seagate's Enterprise NAS HDDs can deliver up to 96TBs in one 16-bay rackmount or tower form factor. Offering a 50 percent capacity advantage over competitive offerings, according to Seagate, the Enterprise NAS HDD 6TB drive delivers the highest capacity available on the market. According to Seagate, the new Enterprise NAS HDDs, thanks to RV sensor technology, can sustain performance streaming and random read/write workloads by adjusting and compensating based on usage.

Some of the key features of the Seagate Enterprise NAS HDDs include Rescue Data Recovery options, 5 year limited warranty, RAID Rebuild technology, Error Recovery Control, aforementioned RV sensor for detecting and compensating for vibrational disturbances as well as spin speed of 7200 RPM.

When compared to WD's Red Pro HDD lineup which has been revealed earlier, Seagate offers higher maximum capacity, larger cache size, better MTBF ratings and bundled data recovery service, something that enterprise market will certainly appreciate.

Unfortunately, availability date or the pricing information are not available but Seagate did note that these HDDs will be priced competitively.
