ASUS had so far only unveiled its Strix and Poseidon graphics cards based on NVIDIA's Maxwell chip. Today, it has finally added yet another member of the Republic of Gamers family based on that same chip, the GTX 980 Matrix.
ASUS Republic of Gamers graphics cards equipped with Nvidia's GM204 GPUs were expected since the release of NVIDIA's Maxwell architecture and this is something that is now available with the official introduction of the GTX 980 Matrix.
This new graphics card, which should reach the market soon, features a factory overclock which puts the GPU at 1241 MHz for the base and 1342 MHz for the GPU Boost clock while its 4 GB of GDDR5 remains at 7010 MHz. This is still way higher than the 1126/1216/7010 MHz seen on reference design and even higher than the recently introduced ASUS GTX 980 Poseidon.
As far as the cooling is concerned, the ASUS GTX 980 Matrix features a DirectCU cooler equipped with five heatpipes and two fans, including a CoolTech fan. As it is usual on these ROG models, the cooler is equipped with LEDs which will change color depending on the load of the GPU.
Unfortunately, the release date and the price of the new GTX 980 Matrix are sill not yet revealed, but ASUS suggested that it should be available soon. It seems that Santa Claus will soon get quite a few queries for this new graphics card.
