HP unveils the new EliteBook Folio 1020 notebook

Thinnest notebook around

HP has unveiled its newest EliteBook series notebook which is also, at least according to the company, the world's thinnest and lightest business notebook, the EliteBook Folio 1020. Obviously going after Apple's MacBook Air with its dimensions, the HP EliteBook Folio 1020 is powered by Intel's Core M chip anbd will be available in two different versions.

By using a magnesium-lithium alloy and carbon fiber, HP managed to keep the new EliteBook Folio 1020 just 15.7mm thick as well as only 1kg heavy, which is certainly impressive. Based on Intel's 14nm Broadwell Core M chip and featuring 8GB of RAM, and 128GB/256GB SSD, the new EliteBook should be quiet, cool, and offer decent amount of performance.

As noted, HP's new EliteBook Folio 1020 will be available in two versions, the Standard Edition and the Special Edition. While the Standard Edition is a bit heavier and features a 12.5-inch 1080p display and can be upgraded to a touchscreen version, the Special Edition is the one with carbon fiber and a magnesium-lithium alloy as well as a 12.5-inch quad HD display, but without touchscreen option.

Both models will, of course, run on Windows 8 OS, and will feature some business features including a fingerprint reader while the battery should keep them up and running for around 9 hours.

The HP EliteBook Folio 1020 Standard Edition is expected to be available in February next year while the Special Edition will wait for April. Unfortunately, HP did not reveal any details regarding the price, but we suspect that these will not come cheap, especially the Special Edition one.
