Intel to power next-gen Google Glass

Coming as soon as next year

According to a fresh report, we might see a new version of Google's Glass as early as next year, and it could be powered by yet to be detailed Intel chip.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, citing sources close to the company, Google could use Intel chip for its next-gen Google Glass. According to the same report, Google could launch the new version as soon as next year. The decision to switch from a Texas Instrument chip to Intel, is apparently part of a wider push from Intel to be more involved in wearable devices and while there are still no precise details regarding the chip, Intel definitely can offer quite a few choices for the next-gen Google Glass.

Intel was pretty late to the whole mobile/smartphone party and while ARM definitely seized the opportunity, Intel is quite keen to get back into that game and has recently pushed hard, providing a 4G/LTE chip for smartphones as well as display both Quark, Edison and MICA bracelet.

Google's Glass project did not have much luck either and while there have been plenty of talk regarding the project and plenty of early adopters, there are plenty of problems with such device, including privacy, as well as the fact that the device should have already launched as a consumer product.

There is little chance that Google will completely abandon the Google Glass project and concept but it might refocus it to different markets, such as businesses, which could provide some manufacturers an easy way of quality testing. Google still has a decent amount of people working on pushing the Google Glass to consumers and with Intel behind it, we could see the new version quite soon.
