Microsoft did not miss out on the opportunity to announce its DirectX 12 API features and technological miracles accompanying it. But, unfortunately, Microsoft did not reveal any official details regarding the compatibility with all Windows platforms, or if the DirectX 12 will be coming to the Windows 7 OS.
Microsoft remains discreet regardin compatibility topic of the DirectX 12. The Windows 7 remained with the first version of DirectX 11, and while it seems logical that it will not support the DirectX 12, but some things might change.
During PDXLAN event, Richard Huddy, Gaming Chief Scientist for AMD, openly declared that DirectX 12, most likely, will not be coming to Windows 7. While the comment was probably taken out of context, thankfully, AMD quickly issued a statement saying that only Microsoft knew what will be done on this subject and that Richard had only speculated over the date of end of life for Windows 7 and the roadmap of DirectX.
Nothing is yet certain today, and gamers are still worried that there will be no support for DirectX 12 on Windows 7, forcing a lot of users to switch to either Windows 8 or even Windows 10. In any case, until games start officially supporting DirectX 12, gamers will have plenty of time to switch to a newer version of the Windows OS.
