Graphics add-in-board market down in Q2

Nvidia still holds the lead

According to a fresh report, the announced estimated graphics add-in-board (AIB) shipments and suppliers market share for Q2 2014 has decreased by 17.5 percent, or 11.5 million units, compared to the last quarter.

According to the report from Jon Peddie Research (JPR), both AMD and Nvidia suffered a decrease in total unit shipments while figures from other suppliers were either flat or declining. AMD's quarter-to-quarter total desktop AIB unit shipments decreased by 10.7 percent while Nvidia took a fall by 21 percent. Despite the rather large fall, which is surprising and disappointing considering that desktop PC market increased by 1.3 percent, Nvidia still holds a dominant market share position with 62 percent.

According to JPR's report, the decline was caused by tablets and embedded graphics but PC gaming momentum is still building and might be a bright spot in the AIB market.

Hopefully, we will see a rise soon as this surely does not feel good for some of the AIB partners.
