You know for me I never saw the need for an Amazon Kindle. I get all kinds of gadgets to play with and I have two tablets already, which I rarely use. I ended up winning the Kindle Fire HD at a party at CES so I was pretty curious to see what all the buzz was about. I do actually read a lot, but I tried to make the switch over to reading on tablets and it just did not stick. I think the biggest thing was that I didn’t want to carry a large tablet around with me all of the time. The Kindle Fire HD being only 7-inches is the smallest tablet I have owned or really spent an extended period of time with. After taking it out of the package I said to myself, “wow this thing is small and who would want a tablet this size?” But after using it for a few weeks it seems to be the perfect device to read on. Of course there is much more you can do on the Kindle fire HD as well so let’s go ahead and get this review started!

The web giant made the shock announcement on its developers blog last week confirming that a fall in the number of users was one of the reasons for closing down the service. In the last ten years we've seen a shift from desktop PCs to notebooks, and now some are prophesising the end of the PC era as smartphones and tablets are becoming increasingly commonplace. While Microsoft is the dominant player in the x86 operating system market, the software giant has had little success with smartphone and tablet products, these markets are largely dominated by Apple's iOS and Google's Android operating systems. With its back against the wall, Microsoft decided to make a major gamble by making massive changes to the user interface of Windows 8 to make it more usable on touch-based mobile devices.

Today Futuremark are releasing, for free, a version of 3DMark which runs on Android (3.0 and above). This is their next step in allowing us to compare the latest mobile devices to each other with iOS support to follow soon. We have had some time with the new Android edition of 3DMark and today we have a selection of benchmark results from various devices as well as some information on the software itself.
