Description
Codenamed Clarkdale, the new LGA 1156 i3 / i5 chips are built on the Westmere 32nm process, joining the previous 45nm Bloomfield and Lynnfield releases in the Nehalem family. Another new idea Intel implemented in these chips is adding a GPU core directly on the processor alongside the CPU. Three new chipsets were also introduced that allow you to run one of these GPU-equipped processors without a discrete video card. Intel Turbo Boost and Hyper-Threading make an appearance in the i5 series as well. All of this and more just ahead as we take a detailed look at the Intel Core i5 661 processor.

Physically, Phenom II X2 core is a quad-core Phenom II die. Rejected quad-core dice are locked down to obtain processors with fewer cores and maximize yield. Athlon II, it turn, has the Regor die with two physical cores and no L3 cache. As a result, this die is only 117.5 mm², while Deneb takes up 258 mm². It will be interesting to see how the lack of L3 cache affects performance of the K10 core.

PCSTATS is testing AMD's latest mainstream quad-core chip, the 3.1GHz Athlon II X4 645 processor. Architecturally speaking the Athlon II X4 645 is identical to the preceding Athlon II X4 635 model, except for a modest clock speed increase. If you're familiar with the preceding few Athlon II X4 6-series CPUs you'll know what to expect so jump ahead to the overclocking results and benchmark tables. Bringing the AII X4's four cores past the 3GHz threshold affords incremental gains of course, and the Athlon II X4 continues to be an ideal CPU for media PCs, particularly when paired an AMD 890GX motherboard.

Description
Today AMD launches a new generation APUs, which is their term for processors with integrated graphics card. The new chips, codenamed Trinity, are the successors to the current AMD A4, A6 and A8 Llano processors. Because the performance has been significantly improved, the new series is labeled A10. The message from AMD is clear, compared to the previous generation both CPU and GPU performance has increased while the energy consumption has decreased. This means better performance per watt, which in laptops should translate to improved battery life.
