Description
Depuis l'acquisition d'ATi par AMD, le fondeur avait l'ambition de mener à bien son projet Fusion réunissant au sein d'une seule puce un CPU et un GPU. La concrétisation fut laborieuse puisque pas moins de 5 ans se sont écoulés depuis, ce qui a permis à son éternel concurrent de lui souffler la primeur en lançant une puce comportant un CPU et un IGP sur le même die via son architecture Sandy Bridge. Cependant, le GPU intégré par Intel, bien que plus performant que les solutions embarquées dans les cartes mères, s'avère insuffisant pour un joueur même occasionnel et ne trouve son utilité que dans les tâches bureautiques et vidéo. En est-il de même pour ces nouveaux APU ou A MD, profitant de l'expertise d'ATi, a-t'il réussi à proposer avec ses A8-3850 et A6-3650 une solution envisageable pour jouer ? Réponse dans ce dossier.

Nachdem wir vor kurzem den Start von Llano für den mobilen Markt beobachten konnten, wollen wir zum Launch der neuen Desktopplattform für den Mainstream selber Hand anlegen. Natürlich ist uns bewusst, dass die APU für die Spieler unter Euch nicht sonderlich interessant ist, aber für alle diejenigen, die einen günstigen und sparsamen Rechner für Office, Internet oder als HTPC suchen, könnte dieser Chip eine hervorragende Möglichkeit darstellen. Abgesehen von der Spieleleistung ist natürlich auch das Thema DirectCompute und OpenCL interessant, verspricht AMD doch, in diesem kleinen Chip die Leistung eines Supercomputer zu vereinen. Tatsächlich ist die theoretische Rechenleistung der bis zu 400 Compute Shader gigantisch im Vergleich zu den maximal vier x86-Kernen. It’s amusing to think that, despite how popular a subject for video games they might be, ‘Ninja’ are rarely shown as stealthy assassins. Games like Ninja Gaiden or the upcoming Metal Gear Revengeance tend to favor ‘over the top’ action instead of careful sneaking through the shadows. Der langersehnte Nachfolger von Sandy Bridge ist ab dem heutigen Tag kein offenes Geheimnis mehr: Intels neue Prozessorgeneration in Form von Ivy Bridge wurde nun offiziell vorgestellt und ist bereits erhältlich. Gegenüber dem Vorgänger konnte der Chip-Gigant nicht nur den Fertigungsprozess modernisieren, sondern auch eine gänzlich neue Transistor-Technologie sowie eine stark überarbeitete Grafikeinheit in die neuen CPUs integrieren. Damit gilt Ivy Bridge als ein "Tick" in Intels "Tick-Tock"-Strategie. Doch aufgrund der vielzähligen Verbesserungen, setzt das Unternehmen noch ein dickes Plus dahinter. Wir schauen uns die jüngsten Prozessoren am Beispiel des Core i7-3770K genauer an und erläutern die Verbesserungen, sowie die Performance samt Effizienz gegenüber Sandy Bridge.

Back in the days, when AMD's Athlon 64 ruled the enthusiast market and single core processors were still the norm, South Korean-based computer cooling manufacturer Zalman manufactured some of the most popular CPU heatsink/fans around. Their signature flower design, in conjunction with a very generous use of copper, demonstrated groundbreaking performance across the board at every review website. When I bought my first -- and to be honest, only -- Zalman cooler from a popular online retailer to go with my Athlon 64 for the purpose of replacing my loud-but-not-so-proud (Literally; no puns intended haha) stock heatsink, I was amazed by how large it was compared to the one that came with my processor. Soon, engineers realized that, by combining elements such as mounting the 120mm fans sideways on tall heatsinks, implementing heatpipe arrays, as well as creative uses of different materials for durability, weight, and performance took CPU cooling performance to entirely new heights. Of which some notable examples include famed heatsinks such as the Scythe Infinity, Noctua NH-U12P, and Thermalright Ultra 120. Stop there for a moment. Just when you thought those heatsinks were large enough, I have something here on hand today that would simply dwarf all of its predecessors. Let's welcome the Noctua NH-D14: A wonderfully, amazingly, comically, and almost ridiculously, large heatsink/fan that is pretty much a combination of two heatsinks into one for the latest and greatest in CPU cooling.
