Performance: Let's take a look at the gaming performance throwing away synthetic benchmarks. I know people don't like reviewers measuring the power consumption using FurMark, well I tell you: I don't care! So under FurMark we measured the power consumption of 273 Watts for the HD 7970 GHz Edition and 232 Watts for the GTX 680. Almost a gap of 40 Watts between these two cards, this isn't nothing while in idle both cards had the same power consumption.

Price: Using geizhals.at as price comparison tool we can see that the offer for a reference design AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition starts at 414 Euros for a card from Gigabte. In comparison the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 starts at 460 Euros. In other words:
The Performance/Price Award goes to the HD 7970 GHz Edition.
