Conclusion

Allgemein   + -
At a first glance ASUS leaves a good impression with its P8Z77-V Pro/Thunderbolt. Once more we very much like the design of this P8-Series motherboard. The color scheme has a high value of recognition but the cooling blocks. We think that they have a cheap looking. In other hand they are not too big therefore they leave plenty of space to easily install a big CPU cooler.   - Design

Layout   + -
Generally the ASUS P8Z77-V Pro/Thunderbolt's layout is well thought. Once more very practical are the angled SATA connectors that allow better cable management. The two main PCIe_16x connectors have been well spaced (two PCI space inbetween) to allow a dual graphics card setup breath well. Furthermore there are plenty of video outputs (HDMI, VGA and DVI), with this many outputs and a Thunderbolt port this board has been clearly designed for a multi-display setup using only the IGP. Unfortunately ASUS didn't equip the P8Z77-V Pro/Thunderbolt with any debug display nor Clear_CMOS button. That's too bad because they are very useful to diagnose/solve a boot issue.   - Angled SATA connectors - Thunderbolt - No Clear_CMOS Button
- No Debug Display

Performance   + -
Overall you will find this board in the center span when you look for it in our comparison tables. A closer look at 3D performance shows that this isn't this product's strength. When it comes to 2D performance things start to look a bit better and the P8Z77-V Pro/Thunderbolt can be found in the solid center span. Regarding power consumption one can clearly see that this isn't a board that has been packed with features. Therefore power consumption is on a reasonable level.

BIOS / Overclocking   + -
In the overclocking part the P8Z77-V Pro/Thunderbolt was a very convincing product. It's been childrens play to reach the clock wall of our test CPU. Furthermore the UEFI BIOS is very easy to use and one can quickly find the settings needed. These days ASUS makes one of the nicest BIOS not only when it comes to the structure but also when you look at the design.   - Well structured BIOS - UEFI-BIOS

Recommendation   + -
If you want to build a mid-range computer or multimedia system, which is based on a new Ivy Bridge CPU then the ASUS P8Z77-V Pro/Thunderbolt is a very good choice. Not only the attractive feature mix but also the numerous connectors, including the Thunderbolt port, were able to convince.   - Mid-range
- Multimedia
