Re: Windows 8 vs 7 - Gaming Performance Radeon HD 7970
I'd be sure to re-install the DX9 libraries on the computer. I ran into issues in W8 with some games where some DX9 features were being emulated due to the missing libraries and performance suffered as a result. *cough* SW:TOR. For other DX9 titles, such as L4D2, this might also be the case.

All DirectX files were up to date for both OS.
EDIT: Double Checked: They are indeed.

Re: Windows 8 vs 7 - Gaming Performance Radeon HD 7970
Well it's not like you need 280 fps to play anyway. 240 is already way more than enough.
Drivers seems to be well ready, played some games under Windows 8 in addition to the ones here and I didn't have any drivers related issues.

Re: Windows 8 vs 7 - Gaming Performance Radeon HD 7970
You did not show the remaining options in Skyrim in the 2nd tab under advanced. These are very important to the performance of the game, and should be standardized for all tests.
Is it possible you overlooked these and that is why you had a discrepancy in that game?

 Re: Windows adoption
I find the adoption rate of Apple vs. Windows users kind of funny. Once Apple releases new products, it seems that that camp is all aflutter about the new features and can't wait to get their hands on the latest and greatest goodies. With Windows users, it seems that less emphasis is placed on the new features and tools available in the new offering and more reasons are listed why they would rather stay with the previous version. I'm not saying that there aren't valid reasons to stay with the Win7 it's just that there are new features in 8 that I think may be worth the upgrade. Especially because it seems that the difference is so slight that it could fall within the margin of expected variances between tests. Having said that, I will probably stay with Win7 because I'm just too lazy to reinstall. I've already spent waaaay too much energy typing this post.

 Re: Windows adoption
Hey man, You might use your pc to play farmville or spend 12 hours on facebook, it's ok.
Some of us are hardcore gamers and believe me when i say 20-30+ fps make a difference.
Why would i want to see my Awesome PC look like a tablet? Sorry i will just leave that eyecandy things to Apple users.

Re: Windows 8 vs 7 - Gaming Performance Radeon HD 7970
Supposedly worst case scenario is 10,000 wertis per bit and a MTBF on that is 1.2 million hours which is usually what you see for a enterprise SAS drive. Most normal SATA drives I believe are about 500,000 hours. For a desktop the 10,000 write is not a big deal. For most servers it probably wouldn't be either considering how often you lose normal drives anyways. You'd lose less SSD's due to wertis than you would normal drives. Of course if it's a big worry using SLC SSD's which I think have something like 100,000 wertis would solve that issue.
