In our previous memory article, we talked about Crucial’s and Micron’s recent comeback to the enthusiast memory market. Tonight, to make a better impression about their fresh lineup, we’ll take another product out for a ride.

Even though 8GB kits are steadily taking over the scene, lots of regular users still know how to keep their computer clean and therefore don’t need more than a pair of 2GB modules, which is close to the minimum amount of memory you can currently buy. Made for this specific niche, a 4GB set of Ballistix memory is lying in our postbox waiting to be tested. Prior to setting our hands loose, here’s what we can say about it:

Manufacturer Crucial
Series Ballistix Elite
Part Number BLE2CP2G3D1869DE1TX0CEU
Type DDR3
Capacity 4 GB (2 x 2GB)
Frequency 1'866 MHz
Timings 9-9-9-27
VDIMM 1.5 Volt
Registred/Unbuffered Unbuffered
ECC No
Cooling Passive Heatspreader
Waranty Lifetime warranty
Package Type Plastic Blister

The subject of our today’s study comes from the same Ballistix Elite series as the one we have tested a week ago. It’s also promised to run at the same DDR3-1866 frequency, using the same timings and the same rated voltage. While on the 4GB sticks such specification looked somewhat unusual, with lower capacity modules you would have to try harder to stand out from the rest of the pack.
