While we’ve already seen plenty of leaks and benchmarks on AMD's upcoming Ryzen processor, some new details on the A12-9800 have emerged on Planet3DNow. Due to the German website, we can finally see how quick this upcoming AM4 APU is going to be


The benchmarks have been conducted on an ASUS A320-M motherboard paired with 8GB or DDR4-2133 memory. The guys from Planet3DNow have used the AIDA64 benchmark suite to determine performance. The new A12-9800 appears to be as quick as the A10-7850K which was released in 2015. The new chip is based on two Excavator x86-x64 CPU modules which together offer four cores clocked and they’re clocking at 4.20 GHz. Compare that to the 4.00 GHz Kaveri chip the A10-7850K APU is.

Having a closer look at the results we see that especially the CPU Hash benchmark is benefitting for the new APU. In this test, the A12-9800 reaches a score which is higher than what a six core AMD Phenom II X6 1090T or Intel Core i7-990X CPUs is capable of.

As always, the APUs from AMD target the entry level market segment and therefore it’s no surprise that the ASUS motherboard used for testing is an entry level model as well. At the moment we don't know if the pictures represent a retail product or an engineering sample, but speaking about the design we don't see even any fancy features in particular.
