Gigabyte talks about Thunderbolt 3 on motherboards

New motherboard and new accessories

Gigabyte has decided that it is time to give its motherboards the Intel Thunderbolt 3 certification by providing either a front panel Thunderbolt 3 drive bay or an add-on card.

According to Gigabyte, the company had introduced a new collection of motherboards that has been certified for Intel Thunderbolt 3 technology. For motherboards that already support it, there is a simple BIOS and software upgrade that enables this feature.

In addition to those motherboards, Gigabyte has also announced the world's first front panel Thunderbolt 3 drive bay, a 5.25-inch box that supports 100W Power Delivery 2.0 and offer USB 3.1 in both Type-A and Type-C version.

Gigabyte is also releasing an add-on card, the GC-ALPINE RIDGE, which will be compatible with many Gigabyte motherboards that have an on-board Thunderbolt connector and do not support Thunderbolt 3 natively.

All these products and new features will be available by the beginning of the next month. Gigabyte has released a full list of motherboards that are already certified as well as a list of new motherboards with Thunderbolt 3.
