Alleged AMD Zen sample specs leaked

4/8/24/32 cores

It appears that information on the specs of AMD samples on their upcoming Zen processors have leaked. According to blogger Dresedenboy AMD there are four different SKUs around so far and - if true - the details don't sound too bad.

Those four chips should feature four, eight, 24 and 32 cores while the TDP of these chips is 65W, 95W, 150W and 150W, respectively. The four-core might feature 2MB L2 cache as well as 8MB of L3 cache, whereas on the eight-core processor these numbers might be increased to 4MB on the L2 cache side and 16MB regarding L3. In the case of clock speeds the four-core CPU runs at 2.8 GHz stock with a boost clock of up to 3.2 GHz. If true, these new CPUs should be capable of downclocking to 550 MHz reducing power consumption to a mere 2.5 and 5 watts in idle. The four- and the eight-core chip are to fit on AMDs future AM4 platform and should therefore be available to end users.

So far there also appears to be new information on the server side. Dresedenboy AMD is writing about a 24-core and a 32-core CPU, both running on a future SP3 platform. While the 24-core unit runs at 2.75 GHz the 32-core part even clocks with up to 2.9 GHz. In idle both these chips can downclock to just a mere 400 MHz. Nevertheless 24 and 32 cores are capable of producing quite a lot of heat, when under full load, resulting in 150W and 180W thermal design power respectively. When it comes to L2 and L3 cache the numbers are pretty impressive, as there is 64 MB on the L3 side with both CPUs and 12 MB L2 cache in the case of the 24-core and 16 MB regarding the 32-core processor.

In the past rumors from blogger Dresedenboy AMD were true several times, but still we recommend to not take this information for granted and it might be the case that AMD makes changes before the launch.
