As we draw closer to the official launch of the Nvidia GTX 1060, scheduled for July 19th, a few more rumors regarding the 3GB version have surfaced online, suggesting it could pack less CUDA cores compared to the 6GB version and have a suggested price of US $149.
We already knew that there were two GP106 GPU variants for the GTX 1060, the GP106-400 and the GP106-300 and
according to a report from Benchlife.info site, this now makes sense, as the 3GB version could end up with 1152 CUDA cores, which is lower than the 1280 CUDA cores on the 6GB version. The 3GB version will still retain 48 ROPs but come with 1152 CUDA cores and 72 TMUs.
There are still no detail regarding clocks and it is still not clear why did Nvidia decide to use GTX 1060 for such graphics cards and not launch it as the GTX 1050 or GTX 1050 Ti.
The price of the GTX 1060 3GB version should be set at US $149 for partners cards and US $199 for the Founders Edition, which is a great price and should put more pressure on AMD's upcoming mainstream lineup.
