Official Nvidia GTX 1060 performance leaked

Faster than RX 480 in all games and VR

Just a week before the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 is expected to show up in retail and when the review NDA is scheduled to be lifted, we have some of the official performance details taken from Nvidia's slides, showing that the Geforce GTX 1060 is faster than the Radeon RX 480 in most games and VR performance.

Since we are talking about performance figures coming from Nvidia, these should be taken with a grain of salt as these do not include all the games and could be cherry-picked.

The performance details leaked by Videocardz.com are done on a couple of games and compared the GTX 1060 to both the GTX 960 and the AMD Radeon RX 480. All benchmarks only include 1080p and 1440p resolutions, which are pretty much targeted resolutions for these graphics cards.

In DirectX 12 and games like Ashes of the Singularity, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex Beta and Rise of the Tomb Raider, the GTX 1060 is anywhere from 4 to 24 percent faster than the Radeon RX 480. The big surprise is the Ashes of the Singularity which uses Async Compute feature and where AMD Radeon graphics cards usually shine.

The DirectX 11 performance features pretty much the same results with GTX 1060 being on par or up to 33 percent faster than the Radeon RX 480.

In SteamVR performance test, the GTX 1060 scores 8.2, which makes it 24 percent faster than the Radeon RX 480, which scores 6.6 points.

The upcoming Geforce GTX 1060 is expected on July 19th and will launch with a US $249/€279 price tag. With such performance and that price, the GTX 1060 will definitely put a lot of pressure on AMD Radeon RX 480.
