Casemod Bulgar #1
Hi everyone my name is Mickee from the Philippines and I would like to share this build in this community, The

Idea is to make a modular test bench in a Thermaltake Core X71. Wish me luck!

Here is what I have in mind but I really suck at following plans basically it might change later down the line

Here is the Core X71

To kick things off lets start to strip the case down.

They were really easy to remove.

Resized Image

For this batch I used a drill to take out the riveted parts.

Resized Image

I'm really not an expert in sleeving that is why I use sleeved extensions on my builds but I want to try it out this time,

Clean looking cables from the front I/O would be nice.

Resized Image

The front audio cord needs to be stripped off its rubber coating because I only have 3mm sleeves.

Resized Image

I am very slow at this lol this took me about 30 minutes.

Resized Image

And yes! but I don't know where I can get a sleeve that would fir the USB 3.0 cable

Resized Image

EVGA!!

Resized Image

Lets unbox them!!

Lets start with the memory modules

The 1000G Power Supply

Superb packaging!

Resized Image

I am going to sleeve them later down the line.

Lovin' the hammered finish

It is massively awesome!

That was a blast!

Going back to the case
The case has temporarily lost its rigidity when the motherboard tray and rear panel was removed so aluminum bars

to
the rescue! I like using aluminum bars because they are easy to cut and file.

Resized Image

Resized Image

I also gave the case a little tilt

Resized Image

Resized Image

It not super sturdy yet but it will be later

3mm Acrylic will serve as out motherboard tray for this project, some cutting and measuring.

Resized Image

Aluminum bars for the skeletal system of the modular test bench.

Resized Image

So those are all that I have so far, I am working on the measurements them cut them altogether then screw or

have them
riveted to the relevant points.

Next update will be on the weekend, see ya!

Re: Casemod Bulgar #4
A few updates for now, I have always used sleeved extensions on my

previous builds so I am not an expert in sleeving but this time I am

giving it a shot and I would like to get it out of the way because I am

really slow at this. Color of the sleeves are Black, Carbon and very

little white on the 24 pin cable.

So here we go

Resized Image

A good friend gave me one of his DIY pin extractor, thanks man!

Resized Image

Here is the 24 Pin cable.

and some other shots

I haven't done the Sata and 4 pin molex yet because I ran out of Carbon

sleeves :p So I have slow progress right now but I think that it's

better than none

Thanks and see you on the next update

Re: Casemod Bulgar #7
I am very sorry for the lack of updates this past few week but hey I'm back on track Also sorry but the pictures that I have right now are not with the best quality it is raining all day when the sun comes back tomorrow I'll take it outside for better images

Let me go back with the case, here is the skeleton for the modular test bench

Resized Image

It fits exactly as planned.

Resized Image

Tubular aluminum to thumb screw the test bench on to.

Resized Image

Ohh sliders <3

Resized Image

I also need to make handle bars out of flat aluminum.

Resized Image

Manual bending yeah!

Resized Image

The integrity of the case has been compromised since most of its parts was removed so I have some reinforcing to do.

Resized Image

Connected!

Resized Image

Custom acrylic panels will be placed on the sides of the case mounted on the sliders and I have to give those sheets some curves. I have been bending acrylic sheets with a heat gun since day 1, I guess I'm tired of that :p Very timely a friend handed down some Nichrome wire yes it's time for a DIY line bender. (I just followed some youtube guide on how this is done)

Resized Image

Power source is a PSU that I took from an SFF PC that I haven't used for a very long time, I try to save money whenever I can

Resized Image

So with some ply board, nails , wood screws, alligator clamp, old PSU and Nichrome wire we now have this

Resized Image

Time to use it on the panel for the project.

Resized Image

Resized Image

Resized Image

Mounted!

Resized Image

I will be back with better images of the progress! thanks

Re: Casemod Bulgar #8
Hi everyone I am back with a few

Worked on the mobo tray

Resized Image

My handwriting is super bad lol

Resized Image

Removing those 2 thumb screws will make the mobo tray pop off the it's base.

Resized Image

Yes in every project I have to mess one two or three things up lol have to

retouch one of the stand offs as it was not on point,

Resized Image

The Z170 Classified K fits right on top of the custom tray

Resized Image

EVGA 1000G sitting in there nice and tight.

Resized Image

And some angled shots

Resized Image

Resized Image

Thanks be back in a jiffy!

Re: Casemod Bulgar #9
Hi, I am very sorry for the lack of updates it was due to the renovation that is still ongoing and my modding area is part of it but now I am back as I've found a

small spot where I can continue my work I have also brought in some help with the help of a vinly cutter and a 3d printer which I got a very deal on yay! So I

have some updates

First off I have manually cut a couple of EVGA logos with a scroll saw, these will be put on each side of the sliding panels.

Resized Image

I spent most of the holidays with the family and the 3d printer lol, It was frustrating at first because I have zero Ideas on how it works but after plenty of

playing and tinkering around as well as reading I guess I got some decent prints or usable at the very least I do not know how to make my own designs just yet as

I am still focused on understanding its dynamics as a whole so I just print stuff that I find online which suits the mood for the project

Something has to hold the PSU on the test bench so..

Mobo Stand off

Resized Image

For the GPU

Resized Image

Resized Image

One of the things that I've learned a few days ago was converting JPEG files to ohh I forgot the file format haha then to STL as a 3d printable file, so I tried it

on the Gear up logo and wow it worked then I just made a few adjustments to better suit my taste.

Resized Image

Short update but there will be more to come soon!

see ya' around!
